Foster

If you have a place in your heart and home for animals—but you are not prepared to adopt— consider fostering for the Pet Mondo. Our foster care program lets animal lovers provide temporary care for kittens, puppies, dogs and cats. Some animals may only need a home for several days or weeks, while others may need several months of care. By offering your home to a pet in need, you prepare it for adoption into a permanent home.

There are many different pets that come to Pet Mondo shelter who benefit greatly from a foster home:

  • Pregnant cats and dogs: Occasionally, we rescue pregnant cats and dogs. They require special love and care in a home environment until they give birth to their babies and care for them until weaning.
  • Young kittens and puppies: Most of our members already have a pet and some pets arrive too young to be housed due to their undeveloped immune systems. These pets will require constant care until they are old enough to return to us to be adopted.
  • New dogs and cats: Sometimes, there is not room for more animals but there are more lives to be saved! Fostering a new animal you can learn all about them (likes, dislikes, habits, etc.) so when they return, we can place them in the best home.
  • Pets with special needs:Some pets need special rehabilitation in a foster home and some simply find the surroundings with other animals too stressful! These pets will benefit from a loving and caring foster parent until they are able to find their forever home.

We are always looking for foster families to help save more animal lives.  We know it can sometimes be a challenging experience – in the love you invest, the commitment it takes, and, eventually, in saying goodbye to a pet that you have nurtured for an extended period of time. But know that what you do matters. Every pet that’s fostered has a better chance at a happier and healthier life ahead with a forever family.

Fostering is an immensely rewarding experience, and it changes animals’ lives in a very direct way. Your act of kindness is repaid in rewards that are beyond words. Foster parenting can be more flexible than other volunteer jobs that require people to show up for a specific shift during limited times of the day and for a committed length of time. Pet Mondo foster program is flexible, fun and rewarding once you’re learned how to take care of your temporary companion animals! Even if you can’t foster or adopt, there are other ways to help.
